Virus Alerts and Internet Safety

Do not open email attachments purporting to come from support@olympus.net, management@olympus.net, administration@olympus.net, staff@olympus.net, postmaster@olympus.net .

A new generation of viruses has been released that eludes virus detection because the virus attachment is encrypted and must be decrypted on the desktop using a password.

  • OlympusNet will never send you encrypted attachments
  • OlympusNet will only send you mail using a format with a dot(.) in the sender name such as customer. support@olympus.net or a support person's name such as dorothy. support@olympus.net
  • OlympusNet will not send mail to you from addresses such as support@olympus.net, or staff@olympus.net
  • OlympusNet's virus filters are automatically updated the moment that Sophos, our virus protection supplier, sends an update
  • We are currently blocking the W32/Bagle-K and J virus as defined by Sophos starting late in the morning of March 3rd by recognizing the From: sender and the Subject: lines
  • Virus writers produce mutants quickly and it takes time for the anti-virus companies to distribute antidotes
  • Your desktop virus software might protect you if you accidentally decrypt a virus email. KEEP YOUR DESKTOP VIRUS PROTECTION UP-TO-DATE
  • ONLY OPEN ATTACHMENTS IF YOU KNOW THE SENDER AND THE EMAIL'S FORMAT AND CONTEXT ARE FAMILIAR
  • Hoax information
  • Pharming/Phishing information
  • Scam and Spyware information
  • Virus information
