THE SAND THINGY CONTEST --- WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THEY COULD DO IT AT THEIR AGES?
3 of the 7 contest judges: Richard Frame, Ann Kelley Gould, and Linda Bright Lankewicz. The wisdom is under their hats. Class of '62 starts creating entry under shroud of secrecy (or shame?) Lynda Woodbury holds the center. Class of '60 organizes: l to r, Jim Gordon, Mike Doyle, Freddie Schweizer, Jeanine Cunningham, Jim Harvey (head in sand), Linda Doyle, Kathy Coutts Murphy (in yellow), JoMarie Frame Cunningham, Dwight Chapman (watching), and contest judge Ann Kelley.
Class of '59 Starts: Hard to believe they'll ever get there. l to r: Lin Clausen (kneeling), Carolyn Koch, Wilson Harris (head nearly in sand), Gary Koch, Ann Ley Montgomery Smith Classes of '56-'58 Start: Kinda looks like a beached whale right now. Class of '61 hard at work: Mad hatter Scott Dudley (center) supervises his slaves.
Sand Thingy Contest Chief Judge Erle Ramsey ponders, at this point, if he was successful in teaching them anything. And there really is wisdom under his hat. With their beer supply running low (feeding the judges), at least the class of '59's entry starts to take shape. Neither the photographer, who tried to be creative with this shot, nor Mike Doyle (with shovel)studying the '60 sand thingy contest entry, could figure out if it was finished or not.
