The enigmatic horse's foot!

It's a mystery to me why the horse's foot remains such a mysterious entity for so many, when we know about it as much as we do.

Is it necessary to have complete knowledge of the foot in order to understand part of the foot? Because we don't know everything about the horse's foot, does this mean we can't understand how some of it works?

Why do people who have substantial knowledge of the foot seem to know so little about how to work with it?

Farriery is underrated. This body of knowledge that represents Farriery is substantial, and in my experience very hard won, not to mention ever complete. It is the body of knowledge that distinguishes the farrier from the horseshoer.

My purpose with this prattle is to explore why so many horse owners feel mystified by their horse's feet.

I believe horseshoeing is ultimately driven by normal market forces. So long as horse owners have a weak understanding of the foot, they will accept weak answers to questions asked of their horseshoers and veterinarians about the foot. In this environment, regardless of the efforts of some to increase the level of knowledge of both horseshoers and veterinarians, the current low level of knowledge will continue.
