One of the primary goal in Periodontal therapy is to restore the lost
attachment and bone. There has been many successful results of a variety
of techniques where this has been accomplished. These two cases illustrates
use of autogenous bonegrafting to accomplish this.
The
first case is a fortyfour year old male, who had a 12 mm pocket on the
distal of his lower right second molar. The area was surgically treated
by raising a fullthickness flap and the site was thoroughly debrided. The
rootsurface was planed using both curettes and rotary instruments. A 25%
solution of neutral EDTA was applied to the rootsurface for 5 minutes.
Autogenous bone graft was removed from the ascending ramus and placed in
the prepared site. The area was sutured and primary closure achieved. This
shows the before and one year follow up pictures.
