Connective tissue graft

The challenge to predictably cover exposed rootsurfaces has lead to the development of a variety of surgical techniques. The following are examples where a connective tissue graft is removed from the palate and placed to cover the area of recession.

This patient was concerned about ongoing recession with unsightly long teeth. It was decided to do a connective tissuegraft, and attempt a complete rootcoverage. A 10 by 7 mm large graft was removed from the palate and placed between the gingival connective tissue and the rootsurface to achieve complete rootcoverage.

After six months healing a complete healing has occured with acceptable rootcoverage and good aesthetic result.

The next case shows an advanced case of gingival recession with significant erosion of the rootsurface and beginning rootsurface caries.

After placement of the graft and one year of healing an acceptable result is achieved.
