When the sun rises, we can really see what we did last night.
The lattice walls and the door are attached to each other, but nothing is bolted to the deck. This step of the project went quite well. Dan drilled pilot holes, and Liz used a battery-powered screw-driver to get the screws in. Jenny and Rob hung on the sides of the lattice to make sure the walls met the floor. Deb and her kids return, and we wrap and raise the center compression ring to the top of the scaffolding.

Raise high the roof beams!
We began to slide the roof supports into place- only they don't SLIDE! Something is very wrong, and we begin to have a tough time after the third beam is in. We watched Nesting Bird put up their roof last week, so we know it should be easier. One of the lattice boards snaps when we try to put in another beam. We decide it is time to call Nesting Bird (again) for help. Jenny Pell, owner of Nesting Bird is over in 15 minutes. We still can't figure out why it is so hard, and so Jenny calls back to her office and asks for more help. Our kids go to acting class, and we drink sodas and have a nice visit. It turns out that we can't count, and placed the first beam in the wrong hole, and torqued the compression ring, so none of the beams could get in at the right angle.

Jenny and Will of Nesting Bird to the rescue
We reset the roof supports, and suddenly everything is moving so fast!

These M&Ms make the work go much faster.

We are almost done raisng the beams
We get all the beams in place at about 6:15. Jenny and Will leave, and we continue to work.

We get the liner up.
The roof liner goes up very easily, as does the shining foil insulation. But when we try to get the heavy vinyl roof up, we find it is impossible to lift. Suddenly, everyone is yelling and struggling. I yell loudest, for everone to stop yelling. I call the Pipias and ask them to come back, and they do. Sharing the load with a few friends makes it glide into place.
Tonight we use a propane lantern as we get the cover lashed down. Once again, it is a beautiful night.
