TPI includes the earnings (wages and salaries, other labor income,
and proprietors's income); dividends, interest, and rent; and transfer payments
received by county residents. Earnings in Klickitat County were 58.4% of TPI
in 1990. By 2000, earnings were 53.7% of TPI. Dividends, interest, and rent
were 24.5% (compared with 20.9% in 1990); and transfer payments were 21.7%
(compared with 20.7% in 1990). From 1990 to 2000, earnings increased on
average 4.2% each year; dividends, interest, and rent increased on average
6.8%; and transfer payments increased on average 5.6%.
- EARNINGS BY INDUSTRY
Earnings of
persons employed in Klickitat County increased from $162,902* in 1990 to
$234,925* in 2000, an average annual growth rate of 3.7%. The largest
industries in 2000 were durable goods manufacturing, 25.4% of earnings; state
and local government, 21.0%; and transportation and public utilities,
13.6%. In 1990, the largest industries were goods manufacturing, 37.4% of
earnings; state and local government, 17.4%; and transportation and public
utilities, 9.6%. Of the industries that accounted for at least 5% of
earnings in 2000, the slowest growing from 1990 to 2000 was durable goods
manufacturing, which decreased at an average annual rate of 0.2%; the fastest
was construction which increased at an average annual rate of
12.4%.
