    Over the past 10 years PCPI went up an average of 4.2% each year. State wide PCPI rose 5.0%, 4.4% nation wide.
    The PCPI was $16,772 in 1989 ranking 10th in the State. By 1999, the PCPI was $25,223 ranking 9th in the State, 83% of the State average of $30,380, 88% of the national average of $28,546.

    Over the past 10 years the average annual growth rate of TPI was 7.6%. The average annual growth rate for the State was 7.0%, 5.4% nation wide.

    TPI includes the earnings (wages and salaries, other labor income, and proprietors's income); dividends, interest, and rent; and transfer payments received by the residents of Jefferson County.
    Earnings were 51.2% of TPI in 1989. By 1999, earnings were 46.9% of TPI. Dividends, interest, and rent were 34.3% (compared with 32.0% in 1989); and transfer payments were 18.8% (compared with 16.8% in 1989).
    From 1989 to 1999, earnings increased on average 6.7% each year; dividends, interest, and rent increased on average 8.4%; and transfer payments increased on average 8.9%.

    Earnings of persons employed in Jefferson County increased from $133,681* in 1989 to $262,483* in 1999, an average annual growth rate of 7.0%. The largest industries in 1999 were services, 22.8% of earnings; state and local government, 22.1%; and retail trade, 12.3%.
    In 1989, the largest industries were state and local government, 22.0% of earnings; services, 17.7%; and retail trade, 13.8%. Of the industries that accounted for at least 5% of earnings in 1999, the slowest growing from 1989 to 1999 was nondurable goods manufacturing; the fastest was services which increased at an average annual rate of 9.7%.
