Franklin County Per
Capita Personal Income (PCPI)Over the past 10 years county
PCPI went up an average of 2.8% each year. State wide PCPI rose 4.5%, 4.2%
nation wide. The PCPI was $14,289 in 1990 ranking 34th in the State. By
2000, the PCPI was $18,813 ranking 37th in the State, 60% of the State average
of $31,230, 64% of the national average of $29,469.

(TPI)
Over the past 10 years the average annual growth
rate of TPI was 5.6%. The average annual growth rate for the State was 6.5%,
5.5% nation wide. In 1990, the TPI was $539,394* ranking 21th in the
State. By 2000, TPI was $932,083* ranking 21th in the State, 0.5% of the
State total.
- COMPONENTS OF TOTAL PERSONAL INCOME
(TPI)
TPI includes the earnings (wages and salaries,
other labor income, and proprietors's income); dividends, interest, and rent;
and transfer payments received by county residents. Earnings were 66.3% of
TPI in 1990. By 2000, earnings were 63.2% of TPI. Dividends, interest, and rent
were 15.7% (compared with 16.3% in 1990); and transfer payments were 21.1%
(compared with 17.4% in 1990). From 1990 to 2000, earnings increased on
average 5.1% each year; dividends, interest, and rent increased on average
5.3%; and transfer payments increased on average 7.7 %.
- EARNINGS BY INDUSTRY
Earnings of persons employed in Franklin County increased from
$421,352* in 1990 to $744,176* in 2000, an average annual growth rate of
5.9%. The largest industries in 2000 were services, 19.8% of earnings; state
and local government, 17.0%; and farm, 14.2%. In 1990, the largest
industries were farm, 18.0% of earnings; state and local government, 16.2%; and
services, 15.5%. Of the industries that accounted for at least 5% of
earnings in 2000, the slowest growing from 1990 to 2000 was farm, which
increased at an average annual rate of 3.4%; the fastest was construction which
increased at an average annual rate of 10.6%.
