POSTCARDS from ALASKA

Today, after waiting several hours for the fog to lift I flew from Juneau to Pelican in a sea plane. I strained for a glimpse of some sign of man or animal against the background of so many trees and peaks. "Civilization" consisted of a few cabins and an occasional enterprise of roads and logging. What would this wilderness be without the hope of seeing a rambling bear or the spout of a whale?
