Transferring a domain name from another server to OlympusNet

This document describes the steps required to transfer a domain name from another server to OlympusNet. There are several steps to the transfer process:

  1. Read OlympusNet Terms and Conditions.
  2. Make sure that the Administrative Contact listed for your domain name is correct. All domain name transfers must be approved by the Administrative Contact. The Administrative Contact is listed in the WHOIS record which you can generate at Check WHOIS.
  3. Fill out OlympusNet's Domain Name Registration Form, selecting the "Modify an existing domain name" button on the first page of the form. Your registration form will be sent automatically to the OlympusNet DNSmaster and reviewed for correctness and completeness; if clarifications are needed, you will be contacted. The OlympusNet DNSmaster submits your application to SRSplus, our registrar of choice. SRSplus sends an email message to the Administrative Contact requesting authorization of the transfer. The Administrative Contact must follow the instructions in that message exactly to verify the transfer. Once the authorization is verified, SRSplus proceeds with the transfer and sends confirmation to the Administrative Contact and to OlympusNet when the transfer is complete. This may take anywhere from one business day to several weeks, depending on the complexity of the transfer.
  4. Contact your current registrar and ask them to remove the Domain Protect feature if it is on. Obtain an authorization code from your registrar and send it to dnsmaster@olympus.net. In this email, tell us which domain name service(s) you require.
  5. To minimize any down time for your site during the transfer process, we will immediately set up the directory for your site's files. We will send email to you when your directory is ready, telling you your password and Web site location. You should then upload your files to the new directory. This will give your Webmaster an opportunity to set up and test the site at its new location before your customers see it. Once the site is ready on OlympusNet's server, the transfer can take place.

We will also set up your domain name in the AccountManager. This is where you can adjust default domain mail behavior, control spam filtering, create domain mailboxes and aliases, manage email forwarding, automate autoresponder messages, and add or remove domain administrators. Other free features include Certified Mail, mail security options and access to change passwords for all mailboxes associated with your account.

We will then post your domain name to our OlympusNet domain name server as well as to a backup domain name server elsewhere on the Internet.

  6. Domain name transfers are not instantaneous and it can take several days or more for your domain name to propagate throughout the Internet once the change has been processed by SRSplus. SRSplus itself may take several days (or more) to process the change. For these reasons, you should plan for some service overlap time between your old and new hosts. Remember that transferring a domain name is not the same thing as transferring the contents of your Web site; that is the responsibility of your Webmaster.
  7. Once OlympusNet receives SRSplus' confirmation, the transfer is complete. However, your site may still not be viewable everywhere for another 24-48 hours. After that period, you should discontinue your Web site with your old host.
