CHANGING YOUR MODEM NUMBER IN WINDOWS |
|
This document tells you how to change your modem number in most versions of Windows. Note: 10-digit dialing for all local calls will soon be required throughout the 360 area code. This means that you will need to make a simple change to the way your dialer calls OlympusNet. Follow these instructions to make that change. Please take a moment to verify that 10-digit dialing is working in your area with a normal telephone call before changing your setup for 10-digit dialing. |

4. Click the 'Dial Properties' button
in the bottom right hand corner of the 'Connect To' window.
NOTE: If your computer started dialing without displaying the 'Connect To' window, cancel the dialing attempt. Click the Connections menu at the top of the Dial-Up Networking window and select 'Settings'. Put a check next to 'Prompt for information before dialing', and click OK. Go back to the beginning of step 4. |

5. Enter 360 in the box next to 'For
local calls, dial'. There may only be enough room in this box to
display two numbers at a time. They will all be in there, so don't
be alarmed. Click OK.
NOTE: If your version of "Dialing Properties" does not match up with what is shown here, you can use an alternate method:
1) Go back to step 3 and use your *right* mouse button to click on OlympusNet which will give you a pop-up menu. |

6. Your connection screen should look
something like this. If you are disabling call waiting, the '*70,'
will appear before the 360.
Make absolutely certain that there is not a leading numeral 1 in the phone number line. If there is, the call will be placed as long distance. At best, it will not work. At worst, you will be billed by the phone company at a long distance rate...a very expensive mistake. Click Connect. Once you are connected, you may close any open windows and run your Internet applications as usual. |
