          HTML Files Directory Information

Home Directory

  • When you log in to the server with your SFTP program, you will log into your Home Directory.  The home directory is often expressed as a path, such as /home/username.  Your home directory will have the same name as your login name. For example, if your username is janedoe, your home directory will be /home/janedoe.  Please note that some SFTP clients will not show the path  /home/username; some will only display your username, such as janedoe.
  • Files stored in your home directory are private and not visible on your website.
  • After you log in to your home directory you will see two shortcuts, often called symlinks (symbolic links.)  Please do not delete the symlinks!   One symlink will be labeled with your domain name, and one symlink will be labeled with your domain name followed by _logs.  For example, the domain name example.com will display links as follows:
    • example.com_logs : this is the place where log files are stored. These files are automatically generated by the server.
    • example.com : this is the place where your HTML files are stored.

HTML Files Directory

  • Your HTML files need to be placed in the symlink labeled with your domain name.  In the examples below the domain name is example.com.  In this example the HTML files are placed in the symlink labeled example.com.

    • Cyberduck
    • FileZilla
    • Fetch
