Installing an OlympusNet Dialup Connection in Windows 2000 Professional Using the Internet Connection Wizard

This document explains how to set up a Dialup Connection in Windows 2000 Professional to access OlympusNet. To set up Dialup connection you will need three pieces of information: your Dialup Username, the Dialup Password, and the Dialup Local Number.

Dialup Username

The Dialup username is your primary email address. For example, if your primary email address is janedoe@olympus.net, then your Dialup username will be: janedoe@olympus.net.

Dialup Password

Your Dialup password will be the same password as for your OlympusNet primary email address. In the example above, the Dialup password would be the same as the one for the email address, janedoe@olympus.net.

Connecting the Modem

Most new computers come with an internal modem featuring a pair of phone jacks. One of these jacks should be labeled "To Line" and the other "To Phone". Quite often these labels are difficult to read, so you may wish to consult your system documentation to determine which is which. You will need to have a phone line connecting your wall phone jack with the "To Line" jack of your modem. If you wish, you can connect an ordinary phone into the "To Phone" jack. This phone may be used in the normal way when you are not connected to the Internet.

The Internet Connection Wizard

If your computer is brand new, the Internet Connection Wizard will probably start when you open Internet Explorer for the first time. (An icon for Internet Explorer usually appears on the desktop and will look like a blue lower case letter "e".) If the Wizard does not start when you open Internet Explorer, start it by clicking on your Start menu and selecting Programs | Accessories | Communications | Internet Connection Wizard.

The Wizard's first screen presents three options. Select I want to set up my Internet Connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN). Click Next.
On the next screen, select I connect through a phone line and a modem, then click Next.
Based on your location, enter appropriate area code (usually 360) in the Area code box. Based on your location, enter the appropriate telephone number in the Telephone number box. Please consult the Modem Telephone Numbers list. Click Next.
Enter your primary email address (e.g., janedoe@olympus.net ) in the User name box, and password in the Password box. (Note: as you type in the password you will see only a string of asterisks to shield the password from anyone who may be looking over your shoulder.)
Enter Olympusnet in the Connection Name box. (This is just a label, so you may name it as you wish.) Click Next.
On the Set Up Your Internet Mail Account page, select No, click Next, then click Finish.
To check your dialup connection, double click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop or Internet Explorer from the Start menu. You will get a Dialup-up Connection screen. Click the Connect button.
