Installing an OlympusNet Dialup Connection in Windows Vista

This document explains how to set up a Dialup connection in Windows Vista to access OlympusNet.  To set up a Dialup connection you will need three pieces of information: your Dialup Username, the Dialup Password, and the Dialup Local Number.

Dialup Username

The Dialup username is your primary email address.  For example, if your primary email address is janedoe@olympus.net, then your Dialup username will be: janedoe@olympus.net

Dialup Password

Your Dialup password will be the same password as for your OlympusNet primary email address. In the example above, the Dialup password would be the same as the one for the email address, janedoe@olympus.net.

Dialup Local Numbers

Please consult our Modem Telephone Numbers page for a few common local area dialup numbers, and links to local dialup numbers for nationwide locations.

Connecting the Modem

Most new computers come with an internal modem featuring a pair of phone jacks. One of these jacks should be labeled "To Line" and the other "To Phone". Quite often these labels are difficult to read, so you may wish to consult your system documentation to determine which is which. You will need to have a phoneline connecting your wall phone jack with the "To Line" jack of your modem. If you wish, you can connect an ordinary phone into the "To Phone" jack. This phone may be used in the normal way when you are not connected to the Internet.

The New Connection Wizard

Windows' Connection Wizard now handles much more than Internet Connections, so experienced users will notice a few more steps at the beginning of the process. NOTE: The Connection Wizard will not delete any old ISP settings you may have installed, but will add new dialers that will become the new "default" setting.

Starting the Internet Connection Wizard

  1. To start the Connection Wizard, click on the Start menu, then click Control Panel.
  2. Under Control Panel Home in the left margin, click Classic View to show all of the control panel icons.
  3. Double-click Internet Options.  Click on the Connections tab. Click on the Add... button on the right side of the Internet Properties window.
  4. Select Dial-up.
  5. Based on your location, enter the appropriate telephone number in the Dial-up Phone Number box. Please consult the Modem Telephone Numbers list.  You should not need to use a 1, and unless your area uses ten digit dialing you will not need to use an area code.
  6. Enter your primary email address in the User name box, and enter your password in the Password box.  (Note: place a check in the Show characters box if you wish to be able to see the characters of your password while typing it).
  7. Click the box beside Remember this password so it is checked.
  8. Enter Olympusnet in the Connection Name box.
  9. Verify that your phoneline is connected to your computer's dialup modem, and click the Connect button.
  10. You will be connected.  (If you receive The Internet connectivity test was unsuccessful screen, please select Set up the connection anyway, and call OlympusNet technical support).
  11. Click OK to close the Internet Properties.
  12. The next time that you open your email program or Internet browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) you should be prompted to connect.

To set up your OlympusNet Email please see the Using Email page.
