OlympusNet-Qwest DSL comes to Port Angeles
Soon OlympusNet will provide DSL in Port Angeles and other parts of Washington in cooperation with Qwest. As soon as Qwest installs equipment in the Sequim, Port Ludlow and Port Townsend Central Offices we will offer OlympusNet-Qwest DSL in those cities. Qwest has not announced the timetable for those cities yet, but we anticipate a roll-out next year.

How will OlympusNet's Existing Dialup Network be affected by DSL?
Later this year, OlympusNet will offer Nationwide Dialup through Qwest. Once Qwest installs that equipment in their local Central Offices on the Peninsula, OlympusNet will shift our existing dialup to Qwest's Nationwide Dialup. Exactly like DSL, Qwest provides the connection, OlympusNet provides the Internet part with our own firewalls, servers, communications equipment and our own technical support.
In the more immediate future, we will add virus filtering, IMAP and POP Business-Class mail as mentioned below to our existing dialup network as soon as our DSL roll-out is completed.
We appreciate our many loyal customers who are patiently waiting for OlympusNet to complement our dialup with broadband.

When will OlympusNet-Qwest DSL be available in Port Angeles?
Qwest estimates that DSL will be available in Port Angeles in October. We will post the latest date for Qwest's turning up their equipment. Once this happens, it will take us one to two weeks to test our equipment and start DSL service.

    What is OlympusNet-Qwest DSL?
An "always on" high speed Internet connection that is up to 24 times faster than dialup, it uses an existing phone line and allows simultaneous voice calls and Internet use. Availability depends on phone line conditions. Customers currently need to be less than 3 miles from the Qwest Central Office located near the Port Angeles Courthouse. (Qwest is now installing long range DSL in some parts of the country that will greatly expand DSL's coverage by going digital to the neighborhood, then copper to the house.)

How is OlympusNet-Qwest DSL billed & how is it provided?
You will receive two separate bills for DSL service. OlympusNet provides and bills for the Internet part. Qwest provides the DSL connection on your existing phone line and bills for the DSL circuit part. Qwest's role is to carry the DSL signal from the customer to OlympusNet and for OlympusNet to connect to the Internet and provide the mail servers and communications equipment.

How much does OlympusNet-Qwest DSL cost?

  • OlympusNet prices (the Internet part) start at $22.50 per month if billed semi-annually (the same as we charge for dialup) with a $25 setup fee.
  • Qwest prices (the phone line part) start at $21.95 per month with a $69 activation fee. Modems range from $150 to $295. Contact OlympusNet for promotions that Quest frequently offers.

How to order OlympusNet-Qwest DSL through OlympusNet

  • Your existing phone line must be tested for quality and distance (less than three miles) from the Qwest Central Office. That test is called a "loop qualification" and can be run only after Qwest installs DSL equipment in the Central Office in Port Angeles. That installation should be completed in October.
  • For Port Angeles customers, please fill out our loop qualification form now so that we can run the test the moment Qwest is ready.
  • We will email you when we receive the results of the loop qualification and ask for a time when we can phone you to discuss your DSL service options, installation and signup.

How to order OlympusNet-Qwest DSL through Qwest
If you prefer, you may order DSL directly through Qwest.

  • CAUTION - The Internet part of Qwest DSL is offered by many Internet providers, such as OlympusNet, Qwest, MSN etc. Please take care to clearly specify OlympusNet as your Internet provider and not Qwest, MSN etc.
  • We'd like to keep you as an OlympusNet customer, but unless you request OlympusNet for your ISP, you will get Qwest or MSN as your Internet provider.
