ON-LINE OLYMPUSNET NEWSFLASHJune, 2001 |
This mail has been sent to all OlympusNet customers.
Email is still one of the most important uses of the Internet. However, the spam situation is getting out of hand and many people are beset by unwanted email filling up their "In" boxes.
OlympusNet's mail servers now add anti-spam headers to incoming messages which have traits that are common to spam. Your email program can use these headers to sort spam into a separate mailbox on your computer. You can then review that mail and delete it at your convenience. These filters work very well and you can still see any mail that is incorrectly identified as spam.
To make this work, you need to create filters in your email program on your computer. We have documented how to do this in Creating spam filters using email headers. Our staff is knowledgeable about these filtering techniques and will help you if needed.
We feel that it is worth spending time to make use of the filtering tools that are built into your email program. The addition of the anti-spam filters is the first step in a multi-step effort to add services to OlympusNet.
We welcome those using other Internet Service Providers to get their mail from OlympusNet. For more information see: Non-dialup email accounts
Please send comments and questions about the anti-spam filters to xxx@olympus.net
Looking forward to your feedback,
