DSL COMES TO PORT LUDLOW IN MARCH
At the end of March, Qwest will install DSL equipment in the Qwest Port Ludlow central office. The coverage area will be approximately three miles centered around the central office and will cover North Bay and South Bay. The central office is located near the South Bay Club.
DSL refers to always-on, fast Internet access over an existing phone line. With DSL, you may be on the phone and on the Internet simultaneously, saving the cost of an extra phone line for the computer. Speeds vary from 256Kb to 1.5Mb.
OlympusNet is connected to the Qwest DSL network and will offer 256Kb DSL at the same price as dialup. OlympusNet's semi-annual rate comes to $22.50 per month, and the quarterly rate is $25 per month. Qwest will add $15 per month to your phone bill plus $3 per month for modem rental. For semi-annual payers the total cost less taxes is $40.50. OlympusNet and Qwest will take signups after the DSL equipment is in place in March. We'll let you know when it's ready. DSL LAUNCH AT SOUTH BAY CLUB APRIL 30TH
Qwest will hold a DSL Launch party at the South Bay Club on April 30th from 3-7PM where you'll be able to see a live DSL circuit. OlympusNet will be there.
REMOTE DSL
The Port Ludlow central office installation will NOT cover the following areas...
Qwest will consider installing 'remote DSL' equipment in the above areas if there is enough interest. If you live in one of these areas and are interested in DSL, please go to Remote DSL for the North Olympic Peninsula, then click the button in the lower left corner. Select Jefferson County/Port Ludlow and then select your neighborhood, for example, Oak Bay and Bay Way North and then enter your data. We will pass it along to Qwest who will make the installation decision. The remote DSL database also has a separate entry under Hood Canal for Shine and South Point. If you're not in any of the neighborhoods listed in the remote DSL database, please let us know.
NEXT GENERATION SPAM FILTER
Be on the lookout for our mail announcing OlympusNet's next generation spam filter. Filtering is done on how the spam is sent, not just on its content. Early tests look promising.
We look forward to seeing you on April 30th at the South Bay Club.
