Changing Your Modem Number in Windows

These instructions will work for MOST computers with Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 & XP. If what you see on your computer screen does not match these instructions, STOP and contact OlympusNet support. These instructions assume that your computer already has a working connection to OlympusNet.  If your computer does not already have a working connection to OlympusNet, follow the appropriate Windows setup instructions for your computer.

If you have not already done so, look up a Dialup modem number or a DialupUnlimited modem number that is local for the location you will be calling from.

1) Click your Start menu, click Settings then Control Panel.

NOTE: Windows XP users will find "Control Panel" listed in the right-hand column of the Start menu rather than under "Settings" as shown here.

2) When the Control Panel opens, double click the "Internet Options" icon.  If you see an icon labeled just "Internet", STOP! You cannot use these instructions. Contact OlympusNet for assistance.
3) When the new "Internet Properties Window appears, click the "Connections" tab.

4) Click once on "OlympusNet (default)" in the white box. The name of your connection may be different depending on how your machine was initially set up. This is OK. If you see more than one item listed here, click on the item with the word "default" next to it.

5) Click the "Settings" button.

6) Confirm that your OlympusNet Email address (e.g. janedoe@olympus.net) is entered in lowercase letters along with your password.

7) Click the "Properties" button to the right of your email address.

  • 8) Change the phone number to a modem number that is local for the location you will be calling from.

  • Note: The appearance and arrangement of this window varies slightly from one version of Windows to another. Do not be alarmed.

    9) Click OK at the bottom of the Window.

    10) Click OK again at the bottom of the next window, then click OK a third time to return to the Control Panel. Close the Control Panel.
