ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS

  • The Olympic Park Institute is a private, non-profit educational organization whose mission is to inspire environmental stewardship through education. Programs emphasize direct, hands-on learning experiences for adults and children in the Olympic National Park region. Professionals who are gifted teachers in the arts, sciences and humanities facilitate learning, using the pristine and managed environments of the Peninsula as classrooms.

  • The Peninsula Trails Coalition is a non profit organization formed in 1988 to initiate the construction of a trail from Port Townsend to Port Angeles along a former railroad corridor. This effort has led to the more ambitious goal of creating a trail across the North Olympic Peninsula -- THE OLYMPIC DISCOVERY TRAIL. The goal of the coalition is to create new trails and expand the existing system of trails across the Olympic Peninsula for recreation, nonmotorized transportation and environmental preservation.

  • The Port Townsend Marine Science Center is a non-profit community organization formed exclusively for educational and scientific purposes to promote and encourage a greater understanding of the marine and aquatic sciences.

  • Protect the Peninsula's Future is a group dedicated to the wise land use of the North Olympic Peninsula. Accomplishments over the years include upgrading the protective status of water bodies like Sequim Bay and helping support the establishment of the wildlife sanctuary at Protection Island. The group has fought everything from oil pipelines and nuclear power plants to the dredging of clam beds.
