CONFIGURING YOUR ACTIONTEC DSL GATEWAY FOR TRANSPARENT BRIDGING |
| By default the Actiontec DSL Gateway holds your IP address
information and acts as a router and a basic firewall for the computers
connected to it. In some network environments you may wish another
device to hold your IP address information rather than the Actiontec DSL
Gateway. For example, you may wish to use a different router or you
may wish to have your computer hold your IP Address information without
using the NAT ( Network Address Translation) and firewall services
of the Actiontec DSL Gateway. This type of setup is know as Transparent
Bridging.
The Actiontec DSL modem can support multiple computer connections. However, the current Actiontec GT 701 DSL Gateway provided by Qwest has only one Ethernet port and only one USB port for one computer. OlympusNet will assist you with an Ethernet cable or USB cable connection for one computer. OlympusNet does not support networking or wireless connectivity. If you will be setting up more than one computer to share your connection or if you want to set up a wireless connection, please contact a Networking Consultant for help with the network setup. You may also contact Actiontec's technical support for help with a wireless connection at (888) 436-0657. Attention Mac users! Please make sure your "Macintosh Computer Name" is just one word and does not contain any of the following characters: space ! # $ % ^ & * ( ) + { } / \ | ; : " ' , < > . ? To locate your "Macintosh Computer Name" OS 9: Go to Control Panels / File Sharing OS X: Go to System Preferences / Sharing
This document explains how to configure your Actiontec DSL
