SOCIETY of ST VINCENT de PAUL St. Joseph Conference

Annual Report to the Members of St. Joseph Parish

October, 2006

Again you have responded to Christ's message,

"Whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren, this you do unto me."

Your response has been generous. And you, together with our Saint Vincent de Paul Society volunteers, have been able to give a helping hand to over 2, 000 of our neighbors in the Sequim School District.

Sudden loss of employment or illness can be catastrophic to the working poor who must constantly struggle to hang on to their homes and to care for their families.

Close to $ 49,000 was disbursed for rent or utility bills. Very often one time help in this regard was all that was needed to help someone persevere. Prescriptions or emergency medical and dental care can't wait for that elusive paycheck. Over $ 23,000 was spent for those concerns, as well as for gas, bus passes, and ferry tickets. Occasionally a bed or table was needed for a bare apartment.

Firewood helped to stave off the bitter cold. Food from the pantry was always available when other sources were not. Throughout the year, almost 18,000 loaves of bread donated through QFC and Sara Lee were distributed daily by our treasurer to Senior Citizens.

Every effort is made to respond promptly to the cry for help. St. Vincent de Paul Society has no paid employees. All expense to deliver aid each day is borne by the two members who have the 24 hour duty for 7 days.

The majority of the funds that accomplish the mission Christ has given us comes from your contributions once a month at Mass. This is augmented some by gifts from United Way, PUD Neighborly Assistance Program, Haller Foundation, and anonymous donors.

The 36 active volunteers and associated members ofthe Society of St. Vincent de Paul ask for your continued prayers so that we may continue to see the face of Christ in each person who cry out to us for help.

Finally, we would especially like to thank Father Tom for his continued faith in the mission we all share.
