CALL FOR ARTISTS
The Shape of Water
A juried exhibition of art and poetry presented by the Port Townsend Arts Commission and the NW Maritime Center.
ELIGIBILITY
Individuals 16 years of age or older residing in East Jefferson County.
CONDITIONS
Open to painting, photography, etching, monotypes, multi-media, wall-hung sculpture and poetry that speaks directly to one’s relationship and response to water. Although it is not required, entrants are encouraged to create new work in response to the “Shape of Water” concept. All entries must have been completed within the past three years.
HOW TO APPLY
Visual Art
- A maximum of 3 entries per artist.
- Dimensions may not exceed 42 x 42 x 8.”
- Two views maximum per entry may be submitted.
- All entry images must be digital and submitted via email to ptartscommission@gmail.com with “Shape of Water Submission/Visual” in the subject line.
- Accepted File Format: JPEG
- Dimensions: Maximum 1920 dpi on longest dimension
- File Size: Must be under 1.8 MB.
- Include image list in email with submission files.
- For each image give title, materials, dimensions, and year completed.
Poetry
- A maximum of 3 poems per author.
- To be submitted as separate Word attachments via email to ptartscommission@gmail.com with “Shape of Water Submission/Poetry” in the subject line.
- Maximum length: 40 lines per poem
- Formatting: 12 pt. Helvetica typeface.
Selected poets will be invited to read during Poetry Month at the NW Maritime Center as part of the show. Appropriateness to the theme, “The Shape of Water,” will be a prime criterion.
Selected poems will be considered for inclusion in the Port Townsend Virtual Art Museum.
All poetry submissions will be considered for distribution as part of a “Pocket Poems” celebration of Poetry Month.

- $7 entry fee, payable to JCCF or Jefferson County Community Foundation (with “PTAC” in the memo line)
are required to complete your submission.

ACCEPTED WORKS
Accepted works may be hand delivered or shipped. Work must be delivered ready to hang. Artist Entrant will be responsible for all shipping charges. Further delivery instructions will be included with notice of acceptance.
SALES
A suggested 15% honorarium of all sales generated by this show donated by the artist to the Northwest Maritime Center. Artists are solely responsible for the handling of all sales generated by this exhibition.
JURORS
Linda Okazaki works to encourage community involvement in public art. A Port Townsend resident since 1980, she received her MFA in painting, and has taught at WSU and Evergreen State College. She has exhibited at numerous solo and group shows, and has works in various public collections. www.lindaokazaki.com
Counsel Langley’s work has been exhibited regionally in many solo and juried shows, published in several select book projects, and is held by Seattle City Light's Portable Works Collection. Langley holds a BFA in from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Boston (1999). She currently resides in her childhood home of Port Townsend with her husband and two daughters. www.counsellangley.com
Stan Sanvel Rubin has run reading series as past Director of the Brockport Writers Forum (SUNY) and as Director of the Rainer Writing Workshop low residency MFA in writing at Pacific Lutheran University. His own most recent book, Hidden Sequel, won the 2005 Barrow Street Prize for Poetry.
