Olympic Mountain Pet Pals helps animals and the community through
a number of programs:
The Spay/Neuter Program lies at the heart of our effort to reduce the number of homeless and unwanted animals in Jefferson County. We work with local veterinarians to provide low-cost or free spay/neuter surgery to pets in low-income families.
The Feral
Cat Program uses the TNR (trap/neuter/return) method
to humanely control populations of cats that have reverted to
a "wild" state. Volunteers trap cats, which are sterilized by local veterinarians at no cost to the trapper. Cats are usually returned to their colony within 1-3 days.
Ginger’s Fund provides
money for emergency medical assistance for animals when families
can’t afford it. Local veterinarians assess need and provide
medical services.
The Snowberry Fund purchases
cat food for volunteers who feed and care for feral cat colonies.
The Feral Kitten Foster Network
is made up of volunteers who tame and socialize kittens removed
from feral cat colonies. We work in partnership with the local
animal shelter which places the tamed kittens in permanent homes.
Pets to People is our much-loved
outreach program to older citizens. Volunteers bring dogs, cats,
and the occasional horse to visit with residents of extended care
and assisted-living facilities.
The READ to ROVER Program is a
partnership with the Port Townsend library that uses registered
therapy dogs as “literacy mentors” to improve children’s
reading skills.
Outreach and Education Activities
allow us to bring our message and support to the community in
a variety of ways. Recently, we donated pet oxygen masks to local
fire departments and provided a series of pet first-aid classes
to local residents.
