PPF members met with Washington Dept. of Fish and Wildlife representatives at the Dungeness Hatchery last July (98) to discuss proposals for removing Canyon Creek Dam. Though there are no plans for removal of the dam, WDFW is proceeding with plans for a fish ladder at the site. PPF received the following letter from Sara LaBorde of WDFW:

Hi Eloise,

I have received some information on Canyon Creek and wanted to forward it to you. Ken Bates has talked with our Engineering and SHEAR programs about Canyon Creek. The SHEAR program will allocate $180,000 from the fish passage grants program to the design and construction of fish passage at the dam. The project will likely cost more than that, Ken and Engineering are starting on a feasibility memo with several options that we discussed list week.
I'll keep you updated. Thank you for all of your interest and help.

Sincerely

Sara LaBorde

A year ago we were hopeful that this stretch of river would once again become available to Dungeness anadromous fish.
