The Space Geodesy Programme of the Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory envisages the construction of a modern space geodesy facility in the semi-arid region of the Karoo in South Africa. This new station will be a node of GGOS and will ensure future participation in global space geodetic networks from southern Africa. International participation is sought for this venture and proposed partnerships with NASA and other possible partners are presented.
